September is the month when the fishermen on Alonnisos land their biggest catches of tuna, and it is also the time when the local women are hard at work making this dish, tonos plaki. It is traditional to the island and is often cooked in the ovens of the local baker, after the final batch of bread has been baked. At lunchtime, the aromas of garlic and oregano are simply intoxicating.
