  • Plums (not quite ripe or only just so) lb.
  • tomatoes (also just ripe) ½ lb.

Method

  1. Cut the plums in halves and remove the stones.
  2. Peel the tomatoes.
  3. Chop up the onions.
  4. Stew all together in a heavy aluminium pan for 2 hours.
  5. Then add the cayenne pepper, brown sugar, salt and the red chillies if you have them.
  6. Add vinegar and cook gently for another ¾ hour.
