This traditional kugel, both sweet and peppery at the same time, is said to have been brought to the religious quarter of Mea Shearim in the 18th century by the gaon of vilna and his followers. The name means Jerusalem Kugel and it is equally good cut into squares and served cold for breakfast or supper as it is for a festive or Shabbat dinner.
