Heat a wok until it is hot, then add the oil. When the oil is moderately hot, add the garlic and cashew nuts, and stir-fry for 30 seconds or until lightly brown. Now add the soy sauce and stir-fry over moderate heat for about 2 Minutes or the liquid has evaporated.
Then add the curry powder, salt, pepper and five-spice powder and mix well so that the nuts are thoroughly coated with the spices. Remove the nuts with a slotted spoon and spread on a baking tray.
Cook in the oven for about 15-20 Minutes or until lightly brown. The nuts will be crisp once they begin to cool.
