This cake is at its best served warm, topped with a spoonful of cool lemon yogurt. This lightly spiced cake batter contains only three tablespoons of sugar and a quarter of a cup of oil. Applesauce keeps the cake moist and tender.

This is a basic recipe. You can top the cake with sliced apples, peaches, or whole fresh cranberries tossed with a little extra sugar.
