If you have pine nuts in your freezer, you can make this sauce on the spur of the moment. It can also be seasoned with the herbs and spices for the walnut sauce, but when it’s simply seasoned, as in this recipe, the subtle pine nut flavor can be better appreciated.

Pine nut sauce is delicious on warm beans, especially white beans and chickpeas, and with grilled vegetables. It can be used wherever walnut sauce is called for. It will keep for a week
