A few years ago, when we lived in Washington, D.C., my mom visited us for the first time, and we took her to pick raspberries at a U-pick farm in the country. Competitiveness with our fellow pickers and plain old greed got the best of us, and we ended the day with a far larger haul than we could possibly eat. The solution? We froze all the leftover berries and later made raspberry sorbet.
