Vanilla Brandy is more delicious and aromatic than the extract in the stores. It is made from the whole seed pods of Vanilla fragrans, a member of the orchid family and a native of the American tropics. True vanilla has an expensive, fine and pervasive flavor; synthetic vanilla is only pervasive and cheap. The longevity of the true pod, though, reduces its initial cost substantially. Covered in brandy or sugar, the pods can provide flavor for several years as the jars are topped off
