This is delicious—with an omelet or scrambled eggs, with spicy breakfast patties, with your favorite ham-burger, or simply spread on toasted peasant bread.

Ingredients

  • 6 allspice berries
  • 6 whole cloves
  • ½ teaspoon crushed dried red pepper flakes

Method

  1. Combine the allspice, cloves, red pepper flakes, and mustard seeds in a piece of cheesecloth. Tie it securely with a long piece of kitchen string, forming a spice bag. Leave the long string dangling.
  2. Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil. Drop the tomatoes in the water and cook until the skins split, 1 to 2 minutes. Then plunge them into a bowl of cold wate
