Perfect for a chilly winter’s night or for re-creating the vibe of one at any other time of year, this drink is named for how much it makes me want to sip it in front of a roaring fireplace. Spiced rum tends to have more sugar and lower alcohol than straight, so choosing a good quality brand here is particularly important for the avoidance of a sugar-induced hangover. The orange notes of spiced rum are played up with orange bitters, further enhancing the autumnal appeal. Ginger syrup provides plenty of the rhizome since rum tastes spicy too. Bitter orange is excellent for digestion, as is ginger, so this drink also does well as a substitute for dessert.
