Ingredients

  • 5 apples
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup sugar

Method

Peel, core and cut apples in half. Bring sugar, water and wine to boiling point. Skim and add cinnamon or lemon peel. Add apples and simmer only until tender. Lift out apples with straining spoon. Boil syrup to thicken it and pour over apples. Serve with a very thin sprinkling of finely chopped lemon peel.
