How to Make a Sheet Cake

Appears in
Baking

By James Peterson

Published 2009

  • About
Spread the cake batter onto a parchment paper-lined 13 by 17-inch sheet pan. There is no need to butter or flour the sheet pan or the paper. Use an offset spatula to spread the cake batter in an even layer. Use your thumb to make a moat around the cake to keep the batter from sticking to the sides of the sheet pan.
Bake at 375Β°F for about 15 minutes, or until the cake springs back to the touch or a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Check the cake when half of the cooking time is up to see if it is browning evenly; if not, rotate the pan in the oven.
