  • About
Though he had cut way back on his drinking by the time this photo was taken, I knew that he would appreciate the moonshine my millers had given me to take to him. It was very special applejack, very hard to find, and sure to spark some old memories from his hillbilly upbringing. He and I hit the bottle pretty hard, and I begged him to teach me one of the old mountain jigs that his ancestors had once danced in the Tennessee hills. In the photo, I am trying to learn the complicated footwork. The next morning, hungover, I remembered nothing, and Daddy refused to admit that we had even had the experience. Thank goodness Lila took photos! It is my favorite photo of us. It sits on my desk, and I see it every day. It never ceases to amuse me. He really was special.
