  • About

Monkfish (Lophius piscatorius) is a scary-looking creature with a huge head and razor-sharp teeth. Don’t let that put you off, however. Monkfish has a delicious flavor reminiscent of lobster, resulting in its nickname “poor man’s lobster.” Its firm flesh is delicately sweet.

Monkfish are found in the Northwest Atlantic and are usually sold as deboned and deveined tail fillets in most American markets. However, some fishmongers and markets will sell whole fish and even the head, which contains edible meat in the cheeks and liver—a delicacy in Japan and sushi restaurants in America.
