  • About
Hoisin sauce is part of the bean sauce family. It is a rich, thick, dark, brownish-red sauce, made from soya bean paste, garlic, vinegar, sugar, spices and other flavourings. It is at once sweet and spicy and its texture ranges from creamy thick to thin. In the West, it is often used mixed with some sesame oil and used as a sauce for Peking Duck.

Hoisin sauce is sold in tins and jars. It is sometimes also called barbecue sauce with hoisin sauce. However, check carefully, as there are barbecue sauces available that are quite different from hoisin sauce.
