REMARKS Maximum length 25 cm. Not common, but found throughout the Mediterranean and in the Black Sea. A dark fish.

The larger, lighter and spotted species Gaidropsarus vulgaris (Cgloquct) is found only at the western end of the Mediterranean, being an Atlantic species. It is the Spanish lota.

CUISINE Delicious, but spoils quickly. Clean at once and cook like whiting.
