REMARKS Maximum length 45 cm. The numerous thin horizontal lines are yellowish. The two vertical bands, fore and aft, are very noticeable. The colour of the rest of the body is very light.

The range of this species covers the whole Mediterranean and the eastern Atlantic from northern Spain down to Senegal.
