  • About

Family Maiidae

REMARKS Maximum length 25 cm. The layout of the legs suggests a spider. The colour varies from yellowish red to rose or chestnut. The carapace is covered with protuberances. The smaller female is the better buy, and is best bought in January or February when she is carrying eggs. Look for the eggs under the ‘tail’ (which is a sort of triangular flap under the back of the body).
