REMARKS Maximum diameter 7 cm, usual size 5 cm. The colour of the shell is usually grey, yellowish or brown. This is a European species. Limpets on the eastern seaboard of North America are smaller. Even Euell Gibbons seems never to have managed to make a meal of them, despite his enthusiastic and optimistic approach to all natural foods.
