A love affair with Italian food and a growing awareness of the health benefits of a crucifer-rich diet have increased the popularity of a diverse group of greens with “broccoli” in their common names. The affair has been so ardent that we may forget that “regular” broccoli—not just broccoli raab—is a relative newcomer to the United States. It seems that we have the same two enterprising Italian immigrants to thank for the widespread availability of both.
