Annie Grierson’s girdle scones

  • About
I was warned that Annie Grierson has the touch when it comes to the girdle pan. Her reputation and presence were sorely missed at the Shawhead show and, strangely enough, tattie scones, her speciality, were not even a judging category. Prospective competitors’ fears of entering against her was the reason, I believe. A visit was arranged to Annie’s house to witness real Scotch home scone-making. Annie tells me that she always used an Aga in her old farmhouse and cooked the scones directly on the hot plate. She now has a smaller house with an electric cooker, and has got used to her cast-iron girdle with the rounded, basket-like handle for easy turning of the hot plate.
