Fatima, who comes from Sa’da, Yemen, has been a passionate baker since childhood. She was always an avid reader of cookbooks and food magazines and honed her technique by experimenting with different cake recipes. She and her husband had four children, but Fatima did not work and had no source of income — so when her husband left them, she needed to support herself and her children on her own. Fatima explains that her culture made it difficult to be a woman who owns a business, but she nevertheless recognized that she had a valuable service to provide and opened her own pastry shop.
