A useful triangle-shaped tool for marking the buttercream on cakes in a pattern of closely spaced lines. Each side of the triangle has a border with jagged teeth allowing for three different gradations: the closer the teeth, the closer the lines on the buttercream.
To use a decorating comb, place the frosted cake on a decorating stand; the frosting should be about ⅛ inch thick. Place the teeth of the comb against the buttercream, just deep enough to make an indentation. Holding the comb steady, turn the cake on the stand until the decorative lines meet in a full circle.
