Low-FODMAP and Vegan

  • About
IBS can express itself in a variety of ways, and even two people with the same type of IBS may experience different symptoms and may respond differently to the same treatments. In addition, IBS symptoms may change over time.
The researchers at Monash University in Australia and dietitians who specialize in low-FODMAP diets recommend that a very strict low-FODMAP diet is adhered to initially for just a short period of time—two to eight weeks. Doing so will help mitigate IBS symptoms, identify trigger foods, and determine how well the diet is working for you. During this period it’s important to avoid all foods that are moderate or high in FODMAPs. The key to success is diligence and commitment (and as a vegan, you’re already in good supply of both of these).
