Dario Bellantoni has an extensive background in restaurants, having worked in the kitchens of Bruno Loubet, Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsay. But it was his local connections to Brixton that made him see the potential in Brixton Village, and he opened in 2010 when few other restaurants had moved in.

From the beginning, Bellantoni’s specialised in pasta and soon the lasagne alone was attracting people to the market. They came for thoughtful dishes, quality ingredients and the beautifully cooked fish (you can tell Dario’s grandfather was a fishmonger). Dario and his business partner Roberto Urban welcome children, always keeping sweets for them, but it is also the sort of place big kids who have recently left home bring their parents. Nothing says ‘I’m doing well’ to your mum and dad better than some custom-made ravioli that you can still afford to pay for yourself...
