  • About
Tucked away opposite The Agile Rabbit on 1st Avenue by the Pope’s Road door, this deceptively small butcher’s counter sells a fantastic selection of more unusual cuts of meat. Primarily catering for an Afro-Caribbean clientele, this is the place to come for your cow foot or cuts of mutton.
Happy to talk you through the best ways to prepare certain cuts of meat, the staff at Horwoods are like the Brixton version of the jolly butchers from children’s books. The meat is excellent quality and, if you’re unsure what to go for, you’ll often get tips and encouragement from the other customers who know their meat almost as well as those on the other side of the counter. They remember regular customers, some of whom have been shopping there for years, and how they like their meat.
