My dad’s auntie had a pie and mash shop
“Pie, mash and liquor is proper East End food. You couldn’t go past a pie and mash shop without having it. There’s not so many of them now, but I like to take people when I can. It’s a new experience for them. People that are from West London or Dover or wherever, who’ve never had it, their usual response is, “I don’t want any of that green stuff on my pie!”.”
“It’s parsley sauce, the liquor, made with eel stock, because they were pie and eel shops.”
