To decorate hard-boiled eggs

Eggs may be boiled in plain colours with initials, names or designs drawn on beforehand with melted candle wax. Either soak in vinegar beforehand or add a spoonful of vinegar to the boiling water which makes the shell more receptive to colour. Onions skins produce a deep yellow colour.
