Method

  • Combine sugar, cornstarch, spices and salt in saucepan; blend thoroughly. Gradually stir in buttermilk and egg yolks. Add dates. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture boils and thickens. Cool slightly. Pour into pie shell. Top with meringue and brown (see Perfect Meringue for Topping Pies). Or chill pie thoroughly
