Preheat oven to moderate (350°F.).
Beat the eggs and sugar together until thick and pale.
Sift together the flour, salt, cinnamon and cloves. Fold into the egg mixture.
Stir in the ground almonds, chocolate bits, candied fruits and lemon rind.
Drop batter by teaspoons onto foil-lined cookie sheets. Bake for about twelve minutes, until firm and lightly browned. Remove cookies from foil immediately and allow to cool on a rack.
