Dal, which is both the name of the lentils, and in this case the dish, is part of the staple diet in India. This is a sumptuous version of a simple dish served with rotis in sikh gurudwaras (temples). Kali means black and the gram in this dish have a black skin.

Ingredients

  • 250 g (9 oz) whole black gram (sabat urad)
  • 1 onion, roughly chopped
