The best head start you can give yourself in preparation for a cycle is to enjoy a generally healthy daily diet, keep well hydrated and eat a nutritionally balanced meal the evening before your ride. And then there’s breakfast – you absolutely shouldn’t skip it. Make time to prepare the food you enjoy. Allow a couple of hours if you prefer a substantial breakfast and less for a smaller meal. There’s a lot to be said for allowing time for ritual and a period of calm. An early bird might prepare Power Oats with peanut butter and honey, while a late riser might have a square of Blueberry and Walnut Baked Oats and a coffee before setting off.
