Driving west from Tbilisi, you can’t help but notice when you get to Imereti. The main road passes through a tunnel under the Rikoti Pass and comes out into another world as it winds through gentle hills and valleys. It’s a rural landscape of small farms and vineyards that reflects the area’s more stable, sedentary history.
