Ingredients

  • Pastry for 2-Crust Pie
  • 4 c. peeled and diced tart apples
  • ½ c. dates, cut into pieces
  • ½ c. maraschino cherries, cut into quarters
  • ½ c. coarsely chopped walnuts
  • ¾ c. sugar
  • ¼ c. flour
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ¼ c. light cream
  • ¼ c. lemon juice

Method

  • Combine apples, dates, cherries and nuts; put into pastry-lined 9" pie pan.
  • Combine sugar, flour and salt. Add cream, mix well. Add lemon juice. Pour cream mixture over fruit. Top with lattice design of strips made from remaining pastry.
  • Place pie in large paper bag. Close and fasten bag. Bake in hot oven (400°F.) 60 minutes (pie will brown, bag keeps steam around pie). Remove from oven; remove pie from bag at once.
