In Şanlı Urfa in southeastern Anatolia, it is customary for a young man about to leave to do his military service to be given a külünce from which he takes a small bite. The külünce is then hung on the wall as a good omen for his safe return. When he completes his military service and eventually returns, he has the customary egg cooked over a fire made of his letters home and then he breaks off a small piece from the külünce and eats it; the rest is soake
