Do me a favor: The next time you buy sliced sandwich bread at the store, take a second to turn over the bag and check out the ingredient list. My guess is that it will have more than ten and probably closer to fifteen ingredients.
This baffles me because good, homemade bread really needs just four: flour, yeast, water, and salt. Anything else is above and beyond. In the case of the fifteen ingredients that are normally in your store-bought sliced bread, they are most likely preservatives and dough softeners.
