Having worked abroad in Europe and Asia, Andrew McConnell has ultimately made a name for himself in Melbourne where he was born and raised. His experience in London, Hong Kong and Shanghai has influenced his independent restaurant endeavours back home in Australia. Andrew’s passion for exceptional, often unusual seasonal produce has earned him the respect of the dining public and his peers, having thrice been honoured Chef of the Year by The Age Good Food Guide.
McConnell currently resides as Executive Chef and Owner of five Melbourne restaurants situated in remarkably diverse districts, each with their own distinct character. Award winning Cumulus Inc. (Flinders Lane) and Cutler & Co. (Fitzroy) were opened in the space of one year, while The Builders Arms Hotel and its dining room Moon Under Water (Fitzroy) were not far behind. His most recent ventures are Supernormal (Flinders Lane, awarded best new restaurant by The Age Good Food Guide 2015) an all-day pan-Asian eatery and Luxembourg (St Kilda) a European style bistro and bar; each establishment is spaciously designed with distinctive architecture and culinary experiences. What each venue does have in common is a strong focus on organic, local produce and the elegance of simplicity.
