Katie Stewart

Katie Stewart (1934-2013) was an English cookery writer who became a household name in the 1960s and 1970s. In her early years she was inspired by her time spent in France as a nanny and at the Cordon Bleu culinary school in Paris. In 1957 she set sail to America, to take on a role in Nestlé’s test kitchens. Her time in the USA broadened her horizons as she discovered the cuisines of New York’s immigrant communities. She returned to England in 1959 and was hired as a junior cookery writer by Fleetway Publications. In 1966 she became cookery editor on the Woman's Journal, a position she retained for more than three decades. From 1966 to 1978 she contributed a weekly cookery column to The Times, along with a whole page of recipes every month. The Times Cookery Book, published in 1972, went on to be her most popular and well-known cookbook In addition to her numerous cookbooks, in the early 1970s she made three series of Cooking with Katie for Grampian TV.
