I was born in New Plymouth, New Zealand and went to Fine Art school in Auckland before coming to the UK in 2001. I worked for Photographer and artist Wolfgang Tillmans as his personal analogue photographic printer for 10 years before he relocated to Berlin in 2012. With a keen interest to follow the culinary seasons and with the intent to create longevity in food I founded my preserving company Newton&Pott. This got the attention of book publishers Square Peg of Penguin Random House and I launched my first cookbook, The Modern Preserver, in August 2015. Find more recipes and writings online in the Guardian Cook residency over Christmas 2015-2016 and a monthly column in the New Zealand Herald food supplement Bite Magazine.
