Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean, and has nine provinces. The regional capital is Palermo, with its crumbling grandiose architecture and huge, colourful, bustling markets: Il Capo, La Vucciria and Ballarò. Here, in just a few minutes’ walk, you can take in Norman palace walls, Arab domes and arches, and Byzantine mosaics. There is so much to say about this intriguing island and its cuisine and food traditions: every corner of Sicily is a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach.
