Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, with roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and a large jug of gravy was a welcome Sunday dinner when I was growing up, but it seems as if there has been a demise in this traditional institution. This is sad, as sometimes it’s the only time that all of the family get the chance to sit down together to “break bread” and chat, as well as enjoy a home-cooked meal. It’s probably still true that roast beef and Yorkshire pudding are one of Britain’s most popular dishes, along with fish and chips and not forgetting the new kid on the block-curry. In this sub-section of the chapter, I’m sharing some traditional and some not so traditional recipes for lamb, beef and pork, as well as a simply stunning recipe for a celebratory baked ham.
