Cooking staff tea is a really important skill in a restaurant kitchen, and just because chefs can cook amazingly high-end technical food, weirdly it doesn’t mean they can make a decent staff tea. But for me, if a restaurant doesn’t care about the staff eating well, it’s not worth working at. It’s generally the only thing we eat in the day, so it needs to be good, and it’s when we all sit together, eat, unwind and have some family chat. A lot of kitchens see it as a hassle but literally the whole point of a restaurant is eating good food, and if staff tea is rubbish it kind of ruins the day.
