Martvili Chkondidi Church and Monastery

This trip explores the coastal region of Samegrelo, or Megrelia, that was so important for trade with Asia and the West, on both the Silk and Spice Routes. It visits Martvili for food and wine, where a group of young natural winemakers are inspiring a renaissance of local red Ojaleshi grapes. There are recipes collected from other parts of the region too. Megrelian food is fiery and exotic, and is some of the country’s most distinct.
